Normal vs abnormal behaviour

Learning your fish's normal behaviour — how it swims, eats, rests and colours up — is the fastest way to spot a problem early, because a change in behaviour usually precedes visible illness.

Every species has its own "normal": kuhli loaches hide by day, some fish rest on the bottom at night, bettas flare. Knowing your individual fish means you notice the real red flags.

When in doubt, the sequence is: observe, test the water, then research the specific symptom — not reach for medication first.
