Overfeeding
Overfeeding is the most common beginner mistake — uneaten food rots and spikes ammonia while excess waste fuels algae and swim-bladder problems — so feeding small amounts is safer than generous ones.
A useful rule of thumb is to feed only what the fish finish in a minute or two, once or twice a day, and to remember that adult fish can safely skip a day. Fish beg constantly; that is not hunger you must obey.
If your water quality, algae or a bloated fish is a problem, cutting feeding is often the quiet fix.
