No. Goldfish don't 'grow to fit' a tank — a small container stunts them, which is chronic harm, not natural size control. Goldfish get large (fancies ~15–20 cm, single-tail commons far bigger), live 10–15+ years, and produce a heavy waste load, so they need a large, well-filtered tank — and commons really need a pond.

No — goldfish are coldwater fish and do best without a tropical heater, at around 20–24 °C. That temperature difference is also why goldfish shouldn't share a tank with tropical fish like bettas or tetras, which need one. They do still need strong filtration and plenty of water volume for their heavy waste load.
